Wind turbines battle strategy to be drawn up

Villagers who have already fought plans to build three wind farms near their homes are preparing for another battle.
Protesters in Gedney Hill are holding a public meeting today to discuss the possibility of another wind farm application near their homes.
Spanish firm IBERDROLA UK has sent a scoping report to South Holland District Council to find out about the viability of building up to ten turbines at Langary Gate, near Gedney Hill.
The council says the report is only a scoping document and is not a planning application.
The news is a second blow for action group Fenland Against Rural Turbines, which has already seen off an application from Wind Prospect to build eight turbines at Morris Fen, near Gedney Hill.
In August RES UK resubmitted its plans to Peterborough City Council to site a wind farm on land south of nearby French Drove, at Wrydecroft, and residents will discuss this tonight as well.
RES previously wanted seven turbines at the site but is now proposing six, along with a control building, wind monitor mast and associated works.
Villagers are also waiting to see what happens regarding another application to build a cluster of seven 100m turbines at Nutsgrove Farm, near Gedney Hill, submitted in 2006.
Action group chairman Phillip Potts said South Holland District Council, Peterborough City Council and MP for South Holland and The Deepings John Hayes have been invited to attend the meeting at Gedney Hill Village Hall, which starts at 7pm.
He added that villagers are still very much opposed to having turbines near their homes and believe that wind turbines are not the most efficient way of producing renewable energy.
He added that there will be facilities for children at the meeting so parents can come along.
