Wind farm concerns discussed

Light Regional Council has held a public meeting to give its ratepayers the chance to discuss, and raise their concerns about, the proposed Twin Creek Wind Farm project.
The meeting, which was held earlier last week in Kapunda, was attended by about 40 people and was an opportunity for council staff to provide an overview of the planning process that applies to the assessment of a wind farm.
Council’s strategy and development manager Craig Doyle said it was highlighted that council is not the decision-maker, but has a role in the assessment process by providing a report, on the proposal, with respect to the content of its Development Plan.
This report is considered by the Council Assessment Panel before it is provided to the State Commission Assessment Panel.
The last part of the session then invited community questions and comments.
“There were experiences shared with respect to similar developments by some of the attendees, which informed the discussion and contributed towards what was a valuable and worthwhile meeting,” Mr Doyle said.
“A number of matters, such as potential environmental considerations, were highlighted for further consideration and clarification when the council report is prepared on this matter.”
Renewal Energy Solutions plans on building the 51-turbine wind farm around five kilometres north-east of the Kapunda township, and has held two series of open-house-type community consultation sessions in the region.
Its most recent session, held in Eudunda in early April, saw several residents voice their opposition to the proposal.
