Hopkinton town board members to visit wind farm in Jericho Saturday to listen for noise, talk with local officials and residents

HOPKINTON – Four members of the Hopkinton Town Board will visit the Jericho Rise Wind Farm in Belmont on Saturday to listen for noise from wind towers, meet with local officials there and possibly speak with local residents.
Hopkinton Town Supervisor Susan Wood says she, along with council members Sue Lyon, Greg Crump and Steve Parker Jr. will make the trip. Town council member Gilbert Sochia will not attend due to a previous engagement, she said.
Some members of the Concerned Citizens for Rural Preservation were expected to visit the wind farm as well, Wood said.
Avangrid Renewable’s North Ridge Wind Farm calls for about 40 500-foot wind towers to be built in Hopkinton and Parishville.
Jericho Rise Wind Farm was chosen because the towers there are similar in size as to what is being proposed in Hopkinton, Wood said. Belmont is near Malone and Chateaugay.
The 9 a.m. meeting will be informal, but Wood said she will ask about the advantages, disadvantages, PILOTs, sound and setbacks.
Wood said she hopes to speak with locals in Belmont as well as get as close to towers as she can.
The idea was a suggestion from Crump, Wood said.
Wood has visited the Jericho Rise Wind Farm on her own and says that she could hear a “faint noise.” “It was a woosh-woosh sound.”
She spent about 90 minutes near the wind turbines and said the level on noise varied depending where she was located.
The Jericho Rise Wind Farm was developed by EFP Renewables.
