Wind power not needed

Credit:  Sun Journal | August 19, 2017 | www.sunjournal.com ~~

The continuing destruction of Maine’s pristine ridges and mountaintops for the benefit of politicians and foreign corporations must end. There is no need for Maine to be a conduit for the delivery of electricity to Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Let them build their wind turbines in the Berkshires and leave Maine alone.

The latest Central Maine Power transmission upgrade from Coburn Gore to Lewiston serves no Maine ratepayer but, rather, enables the Spanish-owned public utility to continue its profitable relationship with Gamesa – a Spanish wind turbine manufacturer. Any benefit Mainers might receive in the future will be purely coincidental.

Instead CMP (Avangrid, Iberdrola) and Bangor Hydro (Emera) will pursue the subsidies of wind and solar and their supplier corporations sign on to the gravy train while ratepayers and small business gets the bill.

I just wonder if folks will ever smarten up and stop the abomination of windmills. What little power generated is no compensation for the payola, destruction, visual pollution and the loss of birds and bats.

If Gov. Paul LePage wants to end this fraud once and for all, he should call the premier of Quebec and work out a deal to buy Hydro Quebec power delivered for four or five cents per kilowatt hour. The Legislature wouldn’t buy that, though, which is why there has been no mention of it since LePage’s 2017 State of the State speech. How curious.
