WELLESLEY ISLAND – River Residents Against Turbines, or River RATS, will host an informational session about Avangrid Renewables’ Horse Creek Wind Farm project at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Tabernacle in Thousand Islands Park.
The group, a coalition of residents and business owners from the Thousand Islands region who have banded together in opposition of the project, will make a presentation and answer audience questions. River RATS dedicates itself to preserving the health, economy, environment and culture of the Thousand Islands and claims the project would threaten aviation operations at Fort Drum, kill thousands of birds and bats, reduce tourism, hurt property values and adversely impact the health of people who live near it.
Avangrid Renewables and its subsidiary, Atlantic Wind LLC, previously proposed to build 60 to 72 turbines, each up to 500 feet, in the towns of Clayton, Orleans, Brownville and Lyme, but those details may change during the state Article 10 law review process for the project.
