Mark Zaccone, Contractor in Business Development for Invenergy, was on hand, giving the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors and update on the Palo Alto County Wind Project during their regular meeting on Tuesday, July 11.
Joe Neary, Palo Alto County Zoning Administrator and Dean Gunderson, Palo Alto County Zoning Board also attended Tuesday morning’s meeting.
“Mark Zaccone has been informed me that Invenergy intends to submit their sight plan and permit application,” Neary began.
“This is our intended timeline,” Zaccone added.
Invenergy began the process outlined in the county ordinance, taking the appropriate steps prior to filing for an application, beginning with written notifications to entities outline within the county’s ordinance. The company also held a pre-application meeting in June, complying with the 90-day process stated within the ordinance.
“The next step in the process is submitting the sight plan and application for a permit,” Neary stated.
Along with the application, Invenergy will also pay the required $1,000 application fee plus $100 per wind energy device, which comes to a total of $171,000. At the same time, a site plan must be submitted for review.
Within 60 days of receiving the application, the Palo Alto County Supervisors must hold a public hearing regarding the Sight Plan Review and Approval permit for all property owners within one mile of each proposed wind energy device.
After this meeting, the Supervisors will have 30 days to approve, approve with conditions, or reject the application.
In other business, Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Veon was in attendance to request approval from the Supervisors to allow Sheriff Reserves, Wes Christensen and Thomas Schultes to carry a firearm.
“I am a firearms trainer,” Veon said. “Reserves are required to meet mandatory requirements that are set by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Both men have completed the requirements and now need your approval to carry a firearm when on duty. Once you approve this, I then send it to the Iowa Police Academy for review and approval of the state board.”
Unanimous approval was given to the Reserves to carry firearms.
