Patriots to purchase renewable energy credits for stadium

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The owners of the New England Patriots have reached a deal to purchase renewable energy credits to match their game-day electricity consumption.
The team won’t actually use wind power or any other renewable energy source to power the scoreboard, stadium lights or concession stands at Gillette Stadium, but the credits will be used by energy companies to encourage the use of so-called “green” power.
The Kraft Group plans to buy 2,400 megawatt-hours of renewable-energy credits over four years through the deal with Constellation NewEnergy of Maryland.
Patriots president Jonathan Kraft says the team has always tried to be as energy efficient and environmentally friendly as possible.
