Wind turbines threat to birds

Credit:  Citrus County Chronicle | January 6, 2017 | www.chronicleonline.com ~~

Last week, the Obama administration approved regulations for the use of wind turbines that could potentially lead to the death of thousands of birds.

Where is the outrage from the public, the Audubon Society and the Sierra Club?

In the last two years wind turbines have killed hundreds of thousands of birds, including eagles. Where is the publicity and outrage? If 100 ducks were oil slicked, it would be front-page news.

If on the Crystal River I shoot seagulls, pelicans, cormorants, there would be outrage. The front-page headline would be “Old man shoots 50 seabirds.” I would be heavily fined and hopefully imprisoned. Who is being penalized for killing thousands of birds that same day with wind turbines?

These machines are not needed for “clean energy.” Solar is fine, no negative environmental effects; and, the same energy could be produced by clean burning natural gas with far less environmental cost.

Anyone who calls themselves an environmentalist and supports use of wind turbines is a hypocrite. Let’s stop any more use of wind turbines, including here in Florida!
