The letter “Wind energy helps wildlife and wallets” lacks any research on the subject of wind farms. Those of us in the Cumberland Mountain Preservation Coalition know differently because we have done our research.
We have been fighting Apex Clean Energy’s Crab Orchard Wind farm for some time. We are not anti-green energy, but we do know when we are being scammed.
The only thing green about wind turbines is the $20 billion-plus the government is spending to subsidize them. They could not function or exist without that funding. We stand with U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, who says that our money could be better spent in researching better ways to find clean energy.
When you look at the facts, wind turbines are a good attempt at green energy but fall way short of their ability to do so. During the process, they kill many birds and bats, which are vitally needed, and they release infrasound, a low-frequency sound not heard by humans. However, the effects of infrasound can be devastating within 6 miles.
That’s why Apex Clean Energy will not take out an insurance policy to protect citizens from the health hazards of infrasound, nor will it take responsibility in the land leases, holding land owners responsible. And they claim there is no problem.
