Wind farm fears to be aired

A mid Wales community whose lives could be made a misery by a wind farm development, are to hold a public meeting.
Growing concern over the rumoured large number of wind farm applications in the pipeline for the Powys countryside has led to the community council for Llanbadarn Fynydd calling next month’s meeting.
Llanbadarn and Moelfre Hill could soon be the next targets for the wind farm energy companies.
Worried residents will be able to air their views and those at the meeting on November 15 will include representatives from at least one of the wind farm development companies.
A spokesman for Llanbadarn Fynydd Community Council said the meeting at Llanbadarn Village Hall would include keynote speakers from both sides and a question and answer session.
Politicians likely to attend include leading Tory, Nick Bourne AM, who is Welsh Conservative Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, MP for Brecon and Radnor Roger Williams and Lib Dem AM for Mid Wales Kirsty Williams.
Mr Bourne says the proposed developments at Llanbadarn and Moelfre Hill, illustrate the need for greater powers to be granted to the Assembly over the issue.
He said: “The benefits of wind power are very few, and do not justify the cost which will be paid by the community. This development raises a serious concern regarding the powers held by the Assembly over power stations.
“It is a matter which will affect Welsh people, and it should be the Welsh people who decide on its construction.”
