Whirlpool plans wind turbines at Ottawa, Marion factories

Whirlpool Corp. will build a wind turbine in Ottawa and three in Marion, a $13.5 million investment to help power its plants in the respective towns.
The Ottawa turbine will offset the factory’s electrical consumption by 34 percent when it is completed by the end of this year. The Marion turbines will offset that factory’s electrical consumption by 19 percent when completed in early 2017.
“This project is the latest to demonstrate our commitment to sustainable and renewable solutions ” said Ron Voglewede, global sustainability director for Whirlpool Corp. “In addition to lowering our operational footprint and costs, we are continuing to optimize and innovate the appliances that are being built in Marion and Ottawa to lower energy and water consumption to help our consumers reduce their environmental footprints, while improving performance.”
All turbines will be built and financed by One Energy, of Findlay, which built Whirlpool’s turbines near its Findlay factory. That wind farm has been operating since January.
