Recent letters to the Public Pulse show how uninformed people are about wind power. When all things are considered, such as the production tax credit, wind power is not cheap – it is actually more expensive than nuclear.
While it doesn’t show up on your electric bill, the cost of the production tax credit is real. It doesn’t show up in the taxes on electric bills, so it is a hidden cost.
Accounting for the tax credit and the fact that a nuclear power plant has twice the lifespan of a wind farm, wind power is much more expensive than nuclear.
Take away the tax credits and wind power could not compete. If wind power were truly cheap, it would not need those tax credits to exist.
