Trailer carrying wind turbine overturns

Route 201 has reopened, after a tractor trailer carrying part of a wind turbine overturned Monday in Johnson Mountain Township, near the Canadian border.

State Police said they were escorting the base of a wind turbine from Canada into Bingham, Maine when the shoulder of the road gave out.

While this was quite a sight and one lane of the road was blocked for a period of time, no one was hurt.

Steve McCausland, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety said this happened Monday morning, along Route 201.

He said he suspects damage is about several thousand dollars.

But he said, fortunately, it was in a very desolate area of the state so traffic was not affected.

McCausland also said State Police escort these parts all over the state, and because of the extreme length, it is protocol to have a cruiser in front and in back.

That road has since been re-opened.
