Wind farm moves a step closer

An energy company hoping to build an 18 turbine wind farm is mounting an exhibition this week to detail the plans.

The 125m turbines would be sited between Walcote and Swinford, but before a planning application can be submitted meteorological data will have to be analysed from a temporary 70m mast which was approved by the district council last week.

If the data correlates with other relevant measurements already taken by the company then plans could be formally submitted as early as spring next year.

In response to the developments Coun John Everett of Misterton Ward has set up a website intended to inform those who live nearby of the positive and negative outcome such a project is likely to bring. The address is www.mistertonwindfarm.info.

Coun Everett said it could be the most important planning decision the council could make for some time.

“There may be tensions between our Local Plan policies designed to protect the appearance of the countryside and Government Guidance about renewable energy, which officers and members would have to resolve,” he said.

“I perceive that my responsibility as Ward Member is to represent the views of the residents who elected me. To this end I have published a website on which are links so that all sides of the renewable energy debate can be researched by those with the time and inclination to do so.”

The company behind the plans, Nuon Energy is holding an exhibition today at Swinford Village Hall from 4pm to 8pm and tomorrow (Friday) 10am to 2pm.
