TEMPLE – Voters will consider a 53-article warrant at the annual town meeting on Monday, March 14. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Town Hall.
Officers are nominated from the floor at the top of the meeting. A three-year selectman term is up for grabs. Currently Jean Mitchell holds the position but she noted “four years is enough.” She served one three-term and was asked to continue on for another year after Selectman Michelle Clark resigned.
Also up for election is a two-year term as road commissioner. Longtime road commissioner Raymond Nile will face challenger Toby Hellgren. The seat on the Mt. Blue Regional School District board will be decided. Current director Betsy Hyde is interested in continuing for another term.
The proposed municipal budget totaling $498,312 is nearly the same total as the current budget, Mitchell said.
A topic of some discussion may come at Article 53 which proposes a 180-day moratorium on applications, permits, and licensing for industrial development. While the town passed a wind power development ordinance a few years ago, some residents are interested in establishing a committee to develop a Comprehensive Plan for the town which would be sent to the planning board for consideration. Earlier this year, Renewable Energy Systems America, Inc. made a pitch at a public meeting to install between 12 and 25 wind turbines on the western side of town, despite the town’s ordinance prohibiting industrial-size turbines.
