Cornwall’s planners have refused permission for three wind turbines on land at at Pines Tip, Summercourt, between St Austell and Newquay.
Each turbine would have been nearly 230-feet high. Officials had recommended that the application should be refused and councillors on the Strategic Planning Committee voted unanimously to endorse that view.
The proposed turbines would have generated enough power for 1,700 Cornish homes, but officials said the main planning consideration was one of visual impact on the landscape.
One councillor said the turbines would be visible from Camelford to Camborne. Local councillor Dick Cole said he was also concerned about the stability of the tip and questioned whether it would support such tall structures.
