Carrickaduff wind farm decision delayed again

Residents in the Finn Valley who have been waiting on a planning decision on a massive 49-turbine wind farm development are facing a further wait.

A decision from An Bord Pleanála on the Carrickaduff wind farm was due last October but has been subject to repeated delays.

Cork-based Planree Limited has applied for planning permission to construct the wind farm which would stretch from the Barnesmore Gap to close to Castlefinn.

A spokesman for An Bord Pleanála said this week that “it is not anticipated that there will be a decision in the immediate future”. “Work is still ongoing in the board’s consideration of the case,” he said.

An Bord Pleanála decided last year that an oral hearing would not be necessary in the case.

Over 200 submissions were received on the application, the vast majority opposed to it.

Marie Scanlon of Finn Valley Wind Action said people in the area were frustrated that “five or six decision dates have passed”.

“Our concerns as a community are outlined clearly in our submissions to An Bord Pleanála and many of the concerns were based around proximity to homes, shadow flicker, noise. These are all legitimate concerns and they need to be addressed,” she said.
