Arkwright wind farm agreement delayed

ARKWRIGHT – The 36 wind turbines planned for the Arkwright Summit Wind Farm will have to wait a little longer to start spinning.
According to Arkwright Town Supervisor Frederic Norton, the meeting scheduled for Monday evening, during which officials had hoped to accept the project’s host agreement, was postponed.
“On Friday, we received a 47-page statement of findings for the board to adopt, presented by the developers. That’s a lot of pages to read. It took me all weekend just to get through it, and our engineer has not yet had the time to read it all over,” he said.
Norton went on to indicate that projects of this magnitude can’t be rushed – all the T’s have to be crossed, the I’s dotted.
“We need to be thorough,” he said. “Host items are very important, and we have to make sure everything is agreeable.”
If and when this project is completed, Arkwright will be the new home to three dozen wind turbines, a permanent meteorological tower, over 12 miles of gravel access roads, 18 miles of underground electrical lines and communication cables, an operations facility, a five-plus miles-long overhead generator lead line, a substation and more, all having a total nameplate generating capacity of 78.4 megawatts.
Arkwright is the lead agency on the project. Officials have reportedly accepted a final environmental impact statement, which is available at the Arkwright Town Hall on Center Road.
Norton said the project and its accompanying host agreement issues will be further discussed at the next regular town board meeting, scheduled for Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the town hall.
