Bourne Board of Health to discuss possible legal action against Plymouth wind turbines

BOURNE – The town of Bourne is looking to stop four wind turbines from being built in neighboring Plymouth.

Future Generation Wind wants to build the 500-foot tall turbines just north of the Bourne town line.

Bourne Selectmen recently voted unanimously to have the Board of Health and Town Council discuss taking legal action.

“If they are going to cause issues with noise or flicker or some other type of issue that may impact the residents of the town of Bourne then the board of health would actually have jurisdiction, we believe, over trying to control that issue,” said Stephen Mealy, chairman of the Bourne Board of Selectmen.

Mealy said there is no timetable yet on when a decision to file an injunction would be made.

“It’s a complicated problem and it involves jurisdiction across town lines and so forth,” he said. “I think this will take some time and I hope we have the patience of everyone involved as we work our way through it.”

Mealy said the area where the turbines are being built was formerly an agricultural area that housed cranberry bogs.

“There’s actually frontage that belongs in the town of Bourne on the property but they had broken away and created a boundary on the property to encompass the actual project being totally located in the town of Plymotuh,” he said.
