Three wind data towers were approved unanimously for conditional use permits at a regular Stark County Planning and Zoning Board meeting Tuesday at Stark County Courthouse.

Two of the towers were presented by Casey Willis of Delaware-based White Butte Wind Project LLC. The temporary 198-foot meteorological towers, which are used to test wind conditions for possible future wind farms, will be erected about 10 miles south of South Heart.

Darren Lawrence of Missouri-based SunEdison also presented a 262-foot lattice permanent wind tower for western Stark County, where part of the Sunflower wind farm majorily based in Morton County extends. This tower would help provide data concerning the wind farm’s efficiency, Lawrence said.

The board’s recommendations will go before the county commission next month.
