Oakley wind turbine plans withdrawn

Plans to build two 36m-high wind turbines near Oakley have been withdrawn due to “unforeseen changes” in government support for renewable energy.
Developers wanted to build the structures at Remiltoun Farmhouse, Inzievar, and had previous plans for smaller turbines approved two years ago. However in a letter to Fife Council they confirmed that they would no longer be continuing with the application, due to “unforeseen changes to government support for renewable energy developments”.
The proposals were for two turbines, each a height of 36.6m to blade tip, and associated infrastructure. The site was expected to generate enough electricity to power up to 109 average homes and offset approximately 193.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
The previous application was approved in December 2013, for the erection of two wind turbines each with a maximum height of 34.2m to blade tip.
According to the planning statement, the proposed turbines were “entirely suitable” for the location and would not have had a significantly adverse effect on the environment or the residential amenity of nearby properties and receptors.

It acknowledged that the new proposed turbines were of a slightly larger scale in comparison to those previously approved but said that they were still considered to be of a “medium scale” and were not considered to be of a “sufficiently substantial variation to create significant adverse impacts”.
It added that the development would not adversely impact upon ecological, landscape and visual impact, or cause natural, built or cultural heritage issues.
