Wind farm a threat to eagles, say campaigners; Legal action to challenge approval for wind farm

A legal action was launched yesterday aimed at halting a wind farm scheme.

Environmental campaigners are seeking to have a decision to grant planning permission for the development on Skye set aside by a judge.

They believe the scheme at Edinbane, near Dunvegan, Skye, could impact on both golden eagles and the island’s population of reintroduced white-tailed sea eagles.

Lord Hodge was told at the Court of Session in Edinburgh that the Skye Wind Farm Action Group was arguing for Highland Council’s decision in May to give the go-ahead for the wind farm to be reduced in a judicial review.

Lord Hodge is expected to give a decision in the case at a later date.

• Plans for a giant wind farm on Lewis have been dramatically scaled-down in a third attempt to gain permission.

Nick Oppenheim initially applied to build 133 of the world’s tallest wind turbines across his private estate. He has now submitted a revamped scheme for 53.
