Finger-pointing

Credit:  July 28, 2015 | www.myeasternshoremd.com ~~

It pained me to read Lee Urbani’s letter “Wake Up” questioning the motives of Keep Kent Scenic’s supporters in their battle to prevent a catastrophe from descending upon our community. He accuses KKS supporters of NIMBYism, deniers of global warming and resistant to progress. I can only respond that Mr. Urbani has clearly not done his homework. He is sadly ignorant of the implications of Apex’s plan for the future of Kent County.

KKS supporters acknowledge global warming as a serious problem that requires action. Where we differ from Mr. Urbani’s view is that we do not believe that every “green energy” project should proceed regardless of the costs to neighbors’ health, home and welfare. Industrial wind turbine projects, properly sited, may be a good idea. The key words here are “properly sited.” It is easy for those sharing Urbani’s view to condemn others has selfish, but in doing so they demonstrate a lack of empathy for those most impacted.

I suggest that the next person to write a letter supporting Apex’s proposal should also volunteer to sell their home and donate the proceeds to those that will be driven from their homes by Apex, many of whom are of limited financial means and unable to afford the luxury of buying another home in another place. If Apex’s supporters will put their money where their mouth is, then maybe we will take their finger pointing seriously.
