More money for wind fight

Grey Highlands is contributing more taxpayer money towards the fight against a proposed wind farm development near the community of Brewster Lake.
Mayor Paul McQueen tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the municipality will participate in two upcoming Environmental Review Tribunals (ERT), and donate another $15,000 to the Grey Highlands Wind Concerns group.
Another $5,000 will be put towards the cost of municipal representation at the planned ERT appeal for the Capstone Infrastructure project.
Earlier this year, McQueen says Council approved giving the same community organization $15,000 towards its appeal of the Zero Emissions People project.
Opening statements in that ERT were heard in Flesherton on May 5th.
The proposed Zero Emissions People five turbine wind farm would be located between Brewster Lake and the tiny village of McIntyre.
The Ministry of Environment also approved the nine turbine Grey Highlands Clean Energy project less than a kilometre from Brewster Lake on April 1st, stretching along Grey Road 4 towards Maxwell.
McQueen says Grey Highlands is specifically concerned about the negative health implications associated with the massive windmill structures and nearby residents.
He says his municipality has always been an unwilling host for wind developments.
In total, Grey Highlands has earmarked $40,000 to fight wind farms in 2015.
