Iberdrola Renewables is investigating a single-turbine fire at the 146MW Farmers City wind farm in Missouri, spokesman Paul Copleman has told reNEWS.
“The fire was self-contained and posed no threat to the community or our staff on site,” said Copleman.
Local firefighters responded to the 14 May blaze. The project employs 73 Gamesa G87 2MW turbines and became operational in 2009.
“We anticipate that this investigation will take quite some time to complete,” said Copleman. “We will refrain from speculation as to cause until completion of our investigation.”
The Farmers City wind farm is located in Atchison County, in the northwest corner of the state. The project encompasses about 14,000 acres of land leased from 44 local landowners.
