Cleburne Co. residents want explanation for delay in wind farm bill

An attorney representing wind farm opponents in Cleburne County says a state senator appears to be standing in the way of their wishes to put the issue to a public vote.

There is a group of people opposed to a proposed wind farm sight on Turkey Heaven Mountain in Cleburne County they have shared their feelings several times with the county commission.

Recently, that commission passed a resolution asking the area’s legislative delegation to pass a local bill levying regulations on wind farms in the county.

It would have been modeled after a similar law in Etowah and Cherokee counties.

However, an attorney representing the group says State Senator Gerald Dial of Lineville is standing in the way of that bill, and hasn’t given a reason.

The attorney says residents even went to Montgomery to speak to Dial.

“A group of citizens that I represent, went to Montgomery at an appointed time, that Senator Dial told them to be there. He met with them for less than two minutes and then kind of brushed them off. So we feel that Senator Dial owes the people of Cleburne County an explanation,” attorney Chad Hopper said.

We’ve tried over multiple days to reach out to Senator Dial for comment and we’ll let you know what he tells us.
