CHP officers blocked off Dillon Road in Desert Hot Springs on Wednesday, April 15, to protect drivers from a wind turbine spinning out of control.
Reports of the out-of-control turbine surfaced about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, CHP officials said. The turbine belongs to a decommissioned wind farm on Dillon Road and Karen Drive.
Cal fire officials said the turbine’s brakes failed and the wind is causing it to spin. The turbine is located 500 to 1000 feet from nearby roads.
Since options are limited, Cal Fire officials are waiting out the turbine’s spinning. To avoid flying parts hitting people or vehicles, CHP has blocked off Dillon Road between Indian Canyon Drive and Diablo Road.
