The federal Environment Department is looking into whether a western Victorian wind farm proposal needs to be assessed under national environment law.
Last month, Northern Grampians Shire councillors approved the renewable energy company Enerfin’s planning application for the 63-turbine Bulgana Wind Farm, near Great Western, despite several community objections.
However, now the Environment Department is calling for public comments, as it looks into whether the project is likely to have a significant impact on nationally protected matters.
The submission period closes on April 21 and a decision about whether a federal assessment is needed is due on May 4.
A department spokesman said if it did need approval, it would be subjected to a thorough environmental evaluation that would include another opportunity for public comment.
