Residents call open meeting over Trethurgy turbine plans

An open meeting will take place tonight to discuss a controversial application to erect wind turbine at Trethurgy Farm.
David Kingdon, a St Austell-based landscape gardener, has submitted a planning application to Cornwall Council for a 79.6m tall turbine – roughly the same height as Truro Cathedral’s tallest spire – on land at his farm.
The site is barely 230m from an area on which the Eden Project planned to erect a turbine in 2009.
On that occasion, Tim Smit, then chief-executive of the Eden Project, withdrew the application at the last minute in the face of fierce local opposition.
This most recent application has met with similar resistance from councillors and residents living nearby.
Campaigner Malcolm Roberts said: “Although not of the height of the turbines alongside the A30 at Victoria, Roche, or beside the A390 near Grampound, it will, nevertheless, stand higher than the highest spire of Truro Cathedral and create a negative impact on the surrounding environment.
“Sadly, Cornwall is becoming blighted by the uncontrolled proliferation of these costly monstrosities.”
Mr Roberts said the meeting would begin at 7pm at Trethurgy Village Hall, and all are welcome to attend.
