Lambton County will open its wallet and lend its voice to an anti-wind turbine Charter challenge heading to the Court of Appeal.
Council authorized staff to spend the necessary funds – estimated at between $35,000 and $40,000 – to seek intervenor status in a Huron County wind turbine appeal.
A divisional court recently ruled against three Huron County farm families who challenged the Ontario government’s wind farm approval process.
The county participated in the case, but county solicitor David Cribbs pointed out the county had to argue for the right to do so against 16 lawyers from four Bay Street law firms.
More than half of a $60,000 county budget for the case has already been spent, he noted.
Members of We’re Against Industrial Turbines – Plympton-Wyoming (WAIT-PW) pitched the county’s participation in the appeal to council Wednesday.
“The reasons we’re involved and the county is involved hasn’t changed,” said Santo Giorno, a member of WAIT-PW.
Council endorsed participation in the appeal with a recorded 29-5 vote.
