A two-turbine wind farm in Porters Lake, Halifax County, has gotten an environmental nod from the province.
Environment Minister Randy Delorey approved the Porters Lake wind farm, with conditions, late last week. The conditions include implementing a bird and bat monitoring program. In addition, plans are needed to monitor noise and shadow flicker.
Watts Wind Energy Inc. of Dartmouth is developing the 3.2-megawatt project. The wind farm is on Crown land between highways 7 and 107 in an area heavily damaged by a 2008 forest fire. Turbines are expected to be operational by the end of the year.
