Hearing Tuesday on wind farm zoning changes

Credit:  By Steve Begnoche, Managing Editor | Ludington Daily News | February 2, 2015 | www.shorelinemedia.net ~~

Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at Amber Township Hall, the public has a chance to comment on proposed changes in the Mason County Zoning Ordinance section covering “utility grid wind energy systems,” commonly known as wind farms.

The planning commission has been reviewing the ordinance for many months now that Lake Winds Energy Park has been in operation for a couple years and lessons learned before, during and after its construction prompted the review.

Some changes planners quickly agreed to, others took more discussion.

Following the public hearing, the planning commission expects to meet at least one more time to discuss any comments or concerns cited Tuesday night, before recommending the proposed changes to the Mason County Board of Commissioners which has final authority whether or not to adopt the zoning change.

On the Mason County web site is a word by word tracking of changes in the document.

Amber Township Hall is located at 171 S. Amber Road, south of U.S. 10.
