Water in windfarm electric pipe

Water is flowing through an electricity pipe at Laois’ only windfarm in the south east of the county, and flooding a nearby village , according to Cllr Ben Brennan.
Water is coming out of a chamber that carries the heavy voltage cable from Gortahile Windfarm to Carlow, alarming locals in Killeshin.
Cllr Brennan asked the council why, at last Wednesday’s Portarlington Graiguecullen area meeting.
“The flow is so bad that it is causing flooding in Killeshin,” he said.
Senior engineer Orla Barrett replied that the ESB have been notified, are investigating and will take any appropriate action if needed.
She said she visited the site the previous Thursday and saw no water.
“I did ring last Friday, but there was not enough rain to go back,” she said.
“You didn’t need rain, it’s coming out the whole time,” answered Cllr Ben Brennan.
Gortahile is the site of Laois’ first windfarm, with eight turbines measuring 125 m to blade tip, taller than Dublin’s spire.
It opened in 2011 and was later sold to French bank BPN Paribas.
