Energy board approves power lines

(Clearview Township) –

There may be another setback for the people who have been battling a proposed wind farm planned for outside Stayner.

The Ontario Energy Board has given wpd Canada the go-ahead to build power lines in road allowances in Clearview township, to move the electricity that will generated by the eight turbines.

In its 10-page decision released late last week, the Board noted that wpd has been trying to meet with Clearview Township officials to talk about the location of power lines for the last two years, but that township officials will not meet with them.

The Energy Board was also critical of Clearview Township officials for asking questions of wpd during the hearings that weren’t part of the process for building power lines.

The decision forces Clearview Township to allow wpd to build its underground and above-ground power lines on the Township’s road allowances near the site.

Wpd’s plan is to build eight turbines on farm property just outside Stayner.

The project is still waiting for final approvals from the Ministry of the Environment.
