Scant protection for our natural heritage

Another day, another case of the Scottish Government rubber-stamping a major development against the wishes of the local community and organisations.
On this occasion it is allowing 23 giant wind turbines to be sited in Straiton, Ayrshire.
There were 5,000 objections to this application. Unfortunately this follows a constant pattern whereby corporate companies appeal to the Government after being refused planning permission by the local authorities and amidst opposition from the people affected and in almost every case receiving the approval to go ahead, irrespective.
I mistakenly thought that the ethos of the Scottish Government was to stand up to corporate interests when detrimental to local communities and groups, not to just bow down to their constant demands. So much for a new type of government where the voters are listened to.
One of the main reasons I voted for the SNP was that I believed that they more than any other party would be determined to protect the unique heritage of Scotland – its natural beauty and wilderness – but based on their actions, I have got that completely wrong.
