Ribble Valley MP speaks out on wind turbines ‘blot’

Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has slammed the decision to allow three “hideous” wind turbines to be sited in a “beautiful” village in the rural borough.
Mr Evans spoke in the House of Commons on the “imposition” of wind turbines on communities despite local opposition.
Speaking in the debate, he said: “Langho, one of my pleasant villages in beautiful Ribble Valley, has recently had three hideous wind turbines imposed on it by appeal, against the wishes of local people, the local council, and, indeed, me.
“Will the Minister assure us that, in future, planning inspectors will give far more weight to localism and to the views of local people before deciding to impose hideous industrial furniture on a local community?”
Speaking after the debate, Mr Evans said: “I cannot understand how an application of the sort of the one in Langho can be passed when local opposition is united.
“Wind turbines are a blot on the landscape and their imposition on a community can have negative consequences for the area.”
A similar opinion has previously been voiced by energy minister Greg Barker MP, who said: “We put certain projects in the wrong place. Some planners have been too insensitive to the impact on the landscape. There’s enough wind projects in the system now, so we don’t need to see any more on shore expansion.”
