Who’s running the town of Antrim?

This letter is in response to the Antrim Select Board conducting the equivalent of a “closed-door” meeting, out of sight and out of mind, by only posting an agenda item four hours before the Select Board meeting on Nov. 24, and prior to a critical vote they would take affecting every citizen in the town.
For all intents and purposes, as a result of the Select Board’s vote, Antrim Wind Energy now has an extended period of time for which they can apply for and secure a permit to construct an industrial wind farm near Tuttle Hill in Antrim.
The majority of Antrim citizens are now wondering who’s driving the train when it comes to deciding whether Antrim will have the largest industrial wind farm in the entire state or not, and whose agenda is this anyway?
Last March 11, the people of Antrim voted in public view, and denied Antrim Wind Energy from constructing a wind farm in Antrim by a majority of 130 votes. Many thought that was the end once and for all. Now the citizens learn that Selectman Gordon Webber, the same individual who appeared in a video on Antrim Wind Energy’s website promoting the project, has allegedly voted to extend the PILOT agreement between the town and Antrim Wind Energy all the way to 2018, and all against the citizens and voters will.
Even though Select Board Chair Michael Genest allegedly thought that this vote should have been taken at an open public meeting, apparently Selectman Gordon Webber felt otherwise and he and Selectman Robertson voted to extend the agreement with Genest being the only no vote.
If Antrim citizens can learn anything from this exercise of hidden meetings, private votes which should have public scrutiny before they are taken, and questionable relationships between town elected officials and developers such as Antrim Wind, it is that when it comes voting time next March, begin to start replacing your Select Board with men and women of character, who won’t violate the public trust with their own personal agenda, and who will represent the citizens of the town especially when they have spoken resoundingly and loudly against any wind farm coming to Antrim.
