Stone wind turbine plans thrown out by councillors

Plans to build a wind turbine on farmland in Stone have been met with overwhelming criticism from councillors.

Stone Town Council has received a pre-application consultation letter testing the water for plans by Hallmark Power to build the 250kw turbine on Richard Plant’s land at Walton House Farm.

But the committee made it clear they would not be in favour of such a scheme.

Councillor Mark Green said: “I am opposed to any turbines around here. I’m dead against them in this vicinity, especially when we build the rest of the houses we have already passed.”

Councillor Rob Kenney said: “People in Walton have been consulted on this. I’m totally against it.”

Councillor Jill Hood added: “I’m horrified these people can come along and impose a wind turbine how they are suggesting.”

Councillor Phil Jones said: “They do more harm than good. There’s no green case for this or the foolish excessive subsidies that come with it.”

The council agreed to make its objections known.

The Newsletter contacted Hallmark Power for a comment, but has not received a response.
