A challenge to a decision by an Bord Pleanala, which gave the go-ahead for a giant €70m wind farm near Upperchurch in North Tipperary, will be heard in the Commercial Court next May.
The Irish Independent has reported that the company behind the proposed project, Ecopower Devleopments Ltd., applied to have a challenge by locals Edward Buckley of Gurtnara, Upperchurch, Thurles, and Edel Grace of Grousehall, Milestone, Thurles, admitted to the fast track Commercial Court list.
The company claims the output from the windfarm which it plans to develop two miles from Upperchurch will be sufficient to power 23,000 homes, which is equivalent to the domestic electricity requirements of North Tipperary.
