Updates on industrial wind and transmission developments will be featured at an informational meeting hosted by Save Our Scenic Hill Country Environment (SOSHCE). The public is invited to attend. The meeting will be at 7 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2014 in the Central Texas Electric Cooperative Community Room at 386 Friendship Lane in Fredericksburg.
The presentations are consistent with SOSHCE’s on-going efforts to actively monitor industrial wind and transmission developments and to help keep landowners, public officials and others informed. The meeting is timely as extension of the federal production tax credit for industrial wind is again being debated. It is particularly noteworthy that the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts issued a report in September that supported ending federal and state subsidies for industrial wind.
Updates will also be provided on wind development activities in the Hill Country and across the state. Of specific concern is the industrial wind farm that appears to still be a possibility in Mason and Menard counties.
SOSHCE’s on-going efforts to monitor transmission planning activities will be discussed. There will be an overview and status report on the planned Blumenthal substation and 138-kV transmission line project east of Fredericksburg. The Long Term System Assessment that is to be completed by ERCOT by year end, the grid operator for most of Texas, will also be addressed with emphasis on potential impacts on this area.
The featured presentations will be preceded by a brief annual meeting of the SOSHCE organization which will include election of six Directors and submittal of an annual report on operations. The report will summarize key activities for the past year which include those related to opposing industrial wind development in the Hill Country.
