Mainers should have had say in wind turbines

The results of a WABI-TV poll about the preferred placement of wind turbines show me that people are beginning to wake up and see what some of us have seen for quite some time: Grid-scale wind turbines have no place in Maine.
The choices were off-shore, on-shore, both or neither. The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of not placing wind turbines anywhere in Maine.
Since 2008 when L.D. 2283 passed quickly without any scrutiny on the part of those voting in favor of expedited grid-scale wind development in Maine, several projects have been built. The resulting after-effects of those projects, such as the ones in Mars Hill and Vinalhaven, have resulted in lawsuits because of the careless and sizable amount of harm that has been brought to the nearby residents.
No law should ever be passed in such a frivolous manner without careful consideration. The residents of Maine have a right to be protected by the very legislators that they elected to office. It is shameful that they were not even given a thought in this process, let alone a chance to make their voices heard.
This is America folks; not Libya or Iran. Our country is teetering on the edge. We must take back our control and have limited government as our forefathers intended. We should decide what is good for us, not our government.
If the people of Maine truly had a chance to decide the issue of wind power and other issues pertinent to Maine by voting, then I could accept the people’s decisions and live with them. That is called “the will of the people.” Sound familiar?
Having something forced down my throat does not set well with me.
