Bramshall: Protesters jubilant as turbine rejected

Bramshall protesters are celebrating after a controversial application for a wind turbine was turned down by planners.

The 74-metre wind turbine proposed for Spring Farm, in Stone Road, Bramshall, has received its final rejection from planning authorities, after action group Bramshall Against Turbines fought for more than a year to get the application thrown out.

Planning chiefs at East Staffordshire Borough Council made the decision based on the potential impact of the turbine on the landscape.

Hallmark Power Limited, the developers behind the turbine, now says it is unlikely to take the decision to appeal at the High Court.

Chairman of the Bramshall Against Turbines Action Group Anne Francis said: “The group is delighted that the inspector recognised the landscape character and appearance would have been marred by the erection of such a large scale industrial machine.

“The action group would like to thank all those who supported the objection procedures.”

Stephen Bate, the developer behind the turbine at Hallmark Power Limited, said: “There’s not really much we can do for this particular one – the main basis of appeal was the impact on the landscape which is a subjective, and in our view the decision taken by planning chiefs was excessive.

“There is the opportunity to appeal at the High Court but this is unlikely to happen.

“Of course we are disappointed.

“The Lower Loxley turbine which we are also dealing with has been refused and we are still within the six month period to take it to appeal which is likely.”

Jamie Pagett and Anne Francis co-ordinated the presentation of 1,000 letters of objection to planning chiefs last year to oppose the proposals.

Since then the turbine decision has gone to appeal three times.

The full details of the second wind turbine at Lower Loxley can be found online at www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk with the reference P/2013/00934.
