Coillte’s ‘contempt’ says POW

Laois wind awareness group People Over Wind have accused Coillte of “utter contempt” for communities, following the statement issued by Coillte on the granting of a judicial review into approval of Cullenagh windfarm.
The semi state forestry company said that “Coillte is aware that there are local concerns and is committed to engaging with people to listen to those concerns. We recognise the importance of community input for the project”.
People over wind PRO Henry Fingleton rejected it as meaningless.
“A hollow and meaningless statement from a body who have completely ignored local concerns up to now and have never engaged with the local community in any meaningful way,” he said.
Mr Fingleton refers to homes on a road across the site.
“To force 15 families to live in a wind farm shows an arrogance and contempt that is unconscionable. Regardless of the outcome of the high court case, history will judge Coillte as demonstrating an utter contempt for local communities and families. If Coillte have any sense of morality, they will withdraw their planning and remove the nightmare these families are facing,” he said.
“The policy of developing windfarms on Coillte land is an unfortunate and misguided strategy which is very damaging to Ireland’s landscape.”
