Council refuse permission to wind turbine

Cavan County Council has refused permission to a Cavan couple seeing to erect a single 80-metre high wind turbine with a rotor diameter of 82m, along with associated site works at Mountain Lodge in the east of the county.
The planning section of the local authority refused permission earlier this month, stating that the development at Tievenanass, not exceeding an overall tip height of 121 metres, was “outside of the footprint of existing and permitted wind farms in the area”.
Along with the turbine, permission was also sought to include site development works including new access track, new access point onto the public road, crane hardstanding area, turbine assembly area and underground cabling.
It was also adjudged that the height of the proposed turbine, which is greater than existing permitted turbines in the area, would be “prejudicial” to visual amenities in contravention of the Cavan County Development Plan.
Ballyduff turbine
Elsewhere, Liffey Energy was granted permission by Cavan County Council to make minor amendments to an existing turbine at Cloggagh, Ballyjamesduff.
The company propose to re-site the permitted turbine to a position approximately 130m South South-East of the previously approved location, with subsequent alterations to ancillary developments such as cable routes, access track, service track, crane hardstand and switchroom location.
All other aspects of the previously permitted development shall remain unaltered.
