Couillard needs to stand up to Hydro

Credit:  Montreal Gazette | August 8, 2014 | www.montrealgazette.com ~~

Wind power may sound cool, but not when it results in higher energy costs. There is an upfront capital cost which can be amortized over 25 or 30 years and there is no high variable costs since wind is free so why are they increasing the cost by 3.9 per cent next year, on top of the increase of more than 4 per cent last April.

The issue is that Hydro-Québec is asking for a rate increase despite having the most profitable year in its history as a result of export revenues. It just doesn’t seem right.

If wind energy is more expensive, then why are we doing it? This is the time for Premier Couillard to step up to the plate and show his true colours and put pressure on the energy board to take a closer look and re-examine the pricing model to ensure that we are not subsidizing exports at the expense of the average citizen.
