Company ends Vermont wind power proposal; Northeast Kingdom project was vetoed by voters in January

A company that had hoped to install 20 wind turbines on a mountaintop in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom says it is ending all work on the project.

Seneca Mountain Wind issued a statement Friday saying it had elected to cease development of the project.

It has withdrawn a request to connect the project to the New England power grid and it has terminated all its leases in Newark, Brighton and Ferdinand where it had hoped to build the turbines.

In May, Seneca Mountain’s parent company Eolian Renewables of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, told the regional grid operator, ISO New England, it was withdrawing its interconnection request.

The company had promised not to proceed with the project without local approval, but people in the affected towns voted against the project last January.
