New turbine battle for Kilncadzow residents

Plans for a new eight turbine windfarm at Kilncadzow have been officially lodged with South Lanarkshire Council.

The proposals for the Hill Rig Windfarm could potentially see the erection of eight turbines with a maximum height of 130 metres being constructed in the Clydesdale countryside.

Applicants Community Windpower Ltd have said that the windfarm would generate 28 megawatts of energy each year powering over 17,000 homes.

The company, based in Motherwell, has also stated in its submissions to the council that the windfarm would bring £140,000 per year in community benefit through payments to SLC’s Renewable Energy Fund. Several public exhibitions were held in Carluke, Forth and Carnwath earlier this year and members of the company met Carnwath and Tarbrax Community Councils.
