Wind turbine plan for Marston gets green light despite opposition

Plans for a 74 metre high wind turbine in Marston have been approved after it went to appeal.

The wind turbine can now be built on land off Green lane in the village following the appeal by Yew Tree Farms. Approval by the Planning Inspectorate means a turbine measuring 74 metre from base to blade tip can be erected.

Last year, members of South Kesteven District Council Planning Committee voted overhwelmingly by 14 votes to 2 against the plan which planning officers recommended for approval. The appellant says the turbine will produce enough electricity to power 300 homes every year.

Jill Rose, secretary to opposition group BLOT (Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines), said: “Following the appeal decision BLOT is considering all the options open. The inspector’s decision went against English Heritage and the National Trust who opposed this application plus that of the elected councillors on the Planning Committee who voted 14 to 2 against the application.”

The planning inspector said: “The proposed turbine would be significantly taller than any other feature nearby, but when seen in context, I agree with the council’s officers that it would not have an unacceptable impact on the character and appearance of the area.”
