Rye Park wind proposal prompts 120 public submissions

The Boorowa Shire Council has raised several concerns about a planned wind farm but says it’s neither for or against it.
About 120 submissions have been made to the Department of Planning on the proposed Rye Park wind farm.
Concerns highlighted in the Council’s submission include that road works and the impacts on local assets are not adequately addressed.
Boorowa’s Mayor, Wendy Tuckerman, says there also wasn’t adequate consultation on the Environmental Assessment.
“The document is copious amounts of information and I believe that by calling a public meeting and discussing all those aspects in the document it would just make more sense to me and I just don’t think that has happened,” Cr Tuckerman said.
The Mayor says as well, the EA made no mention of how the project would source water to construct the wind farm.
“We’re not in a position to provide copious amounts of water to any development,” she said.
Obviously there has been concerns over the Summer as regards to the lack of water we do have. So we is something that needs to be highlighted, needs to be discussed.
And that was something that was certainly lacking the Environmental Assessment.”
The Rye Park wind farm is the first that is partly situated in the Boorowa Shire to get to the Environment Assessment Stage.
It would be built on 38 farms between Yass and Boorowa and include up to 126 turbines in the Boorowa, Upper Lachlan and Yass council areas.
The state department, NSW Planning and Environment, is now collating the submissions on the Rye Park wind farm and expects to publish them on its website within the next week.
