Plans for three wind turbines near Gargrave are turned down

Plans to build three 100m high wind turbines at Brightenber Hill, near Gargrave, have been dismissed.

An inspector for the Planning Inspectorate today upheld the decision of Craven District Council and refused permission for the turbines on farm land at East Marton.

It follows a two day public hearing held more than a year ago and is the second attempt by applicant EnergieKontor UK to build on the site.

In dismissing the appeal, inspector Zoe Hill said: “While this appeal, unlike the previous appeal, does not turn on the effects of the occupiers of Ash Tree Farm, the scheme is materially different in its scale being for a smaller number of turbines with much reduced benefits in terms of renewable energy provision.

“I find that the sum of the adverse impacts of the proposed development would not be outweighed by its benefits.”
